Aron Das Gupta studied business law and intellectual property law at the Leiden University, graduating 1998. He has been working in the legal profession since 1999 and was admitted to the bar as an attorney-at-law (advocaat) in 2000. Aron worked in the general commercial advisory and litigation practice up to 2004 and subsequently specialized in commercial law, intellectual property law and civil procedural law. Before joining Bavelaar Advocaten on 1 January 2014, he was partner at one of the larger internationally oriented civil and tax law firms where he co-headed the commercial litigation and intellectual property law sections.
Aron’s practice has a strong international focus and comprises mostly advising clients on contracts and the procedural aspects of litigation including representing them in civil proceedings and at various arbitration tribunals. His client-base includes middle to large companies such as software and games manufacturers, publishers, payment service providers, film and theatre companies, shipping companies, power suppliers, betting and gaming operators, sports organizations, investment funds, financial and educational organizations, food manufacturers but also individuals, for example, journalists, musicians, performing artists, architects, top sportsmen and women and IndieGames developers.
Aron has lectured civil procedural law at the Vocational Training for Attorneys-at-Law given by the Netherlands Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) and copyright law at the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht and still lectures regularly. He is currently associated with the moot court department of Leiden University. Aron is regularly requested as an independent commentator on newsworthy legal issues in the media.
Languages: Dutch, English and German. Due to his Swiss background, Aron is also fluent in the so-called ‘Schwyzertütsch’ (Swiss German).
